The CBI, which filed a chargesheet in the case, contended that the encounter was a joint operation between Gujarat Police and Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau, SIB.
Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Ali Anwar on Friday termed Ishrat Jahan as 'Bihar's daughter' and pledged to get justice for her. "Ishrat Jahan was a daughter of Bihar and people from Bihar believe in fighting for truth. She will get justice; we will get it for her, " Anwar said.
"The CBI has agreed that it was a fake encounter. May it be Narendra Modi or Amit shah, public perception is the main thing , they may dodge law and escape but cannot fool people of the country. I personally believe that Narendra Modi and Amit shah were involved in this case," he added. According to reports, Ishrat Jahan's grandfather Wali Mohammad belonged to Khagaul area near Patna. Her father Mohammad Shamim had married Shamima Qausar of Jamalpur in Bihar. They later moved to Maharashtra.

The investigating agency further said that commitment of offences have been established against ADGP PP Pandey, suspended police officers DG Vanzara, GL Singhal, Tarun Barot, NK Amin, Anaju Chaudhary and JG Parmar.
The CBI also said that investigation is on against Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau Rajinder Kumar and four officers of the agency. According to the chargesheet, Ishrat Jahan was not a terrorist, but the three others killed along with her had alleged terror links. No political leader has been named in the CBI chargesheet. Ishrat Jahan, a 19-year-old college girl from Mumbai, was killed in an encounter along with three others on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in 2004.
