Bihar government plans a world class stadium on the outskirts of state capital besides remodelling the Moinul Haq Stadium with all the facilities required for hosting international cricket matches.
The plan got CM Nitish Kumar's nod at a high-level meeting of state's human development mission here on Saturday. Possibly taking a cue from Ranchi, where a new stadium has been constructed and a couple of IPL matches were organized last month, Bihar has also planned to attract the cricket organizers with a modified stadium with facilities of international standard.
The world-class stadium, in all likelihood, will be constructed somewhere in Nalanda, the home district of the CM. The newly built Patliputra Sports Complex will be further developed as one of the best indoor stadiums.
Chief secretary A K Sinha, who attended the meeting, later told media persons that the art, culture and youth affairs department has been asked to prepare a road map in two months. The meeting discussed the indicators as well as the financial implications of the projects. However, Sinha refused to disclose the cost.
Apart from sports, other sectors that were discussed at the fifth meeting of the mission included education, information and technology, urban sanitation and skill development. The CM fixed a target of making one crore people skilled by 2016-17. Other departments concerned have been directed to make an integrated road map to achieve their targets.
The meeting was attended by I&PRD minister Brishen Patel, health minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey, information and technology minister Shahid Ali Khan, rural development minister Nitish Mishra, rural works department minister Bhim Singh, art, culture and youth affairs department minister Sukhda Pandey, social welfare minister Parveen Amanullah and planning development minister Narendra Narayan Yadav, besides principal secretaries of the departments concerned.
It was decided to have a monitoring committee under the chief secretary to monitor the progress of the integrated road map on quarterly basis. There will be subcommittees of different departments to oversee the implementation on monthly basis. The subcommittees will make their budget and submit them to planning and development department within a fortnight.
Sinha said 20 colleges will be developed as centre of excellence. Each of the 20 colleges will have additional courses of BEd, BBA and MBA, which will be linked to Chandragupta Institute of Management Patna.
A six-month course in makhana cultivation will be introduced at CM College, Darbhanga. To prepare the action plan for technical education, a four-member committee headed by principal secretary, education, will be constituted.
Stressing on making women IT literate, the CM said after the formation of one million self-help groups (SHGs), the state will witness a great social change. The purpose of the SHGs will be to raise people above poverty line and make them skilled.
