Mumbai: 16-year-old forced to drink alcohol, raped by four

A 16-year-old girl from Mumbai's Goregaon (East) was allegedly raped by four men after being forced to drink alcohol, on Friday. Two others have been booked for their roles as accomplices. All the accused, who are in their 20s, have criminal cases against them, the police said. The survivor, a Class 8 dropout, had known the accused for two years and considered them friends, said Dighambar Dhasine, sub- inspector at Dindoshi police station. “The accused are from the girl’s neighbourhood. We are looking for them,” he said.

The incident took place between 9pm and 11pm on Friday. “Two of the accused called the girl on her phone and asked her to come to the Mhada bridge to celebrate Diwali. She said they forced her to drink beer and four of them raped her,” said a police official. After the rape, the accused went to a nearby restaurant. While they were eating, the survivor ran away, but kept quiet about the incident.

On Sunday, she broke down and told her family, after which her brother took her to Dindoshi police station where a case of gangrape was registered. Her medical report will be ready on Monday. The girl’s father died two years ago after which she dropped out of school. A few months later, her mother abandoned her. Since then she has been staying with her brother.
