Pope Francis offered a special greeting to Muslim "brothers" around the world today while conducting his weekly Angelus prayer at the Vatican, urging Christians and Muslims to commit to encouraging mutual respect between the faiths.
Despite the sizzling temperatures and the August holidays which usually empty the city, large crowds gathered under the windows of the papal apartments to take part in the prayer.
"I wish that Christians and Muslims commit to promoting mutual respect, especially through the education of the new generations."
In his now trademark greeting the Pope wished the crowds a "good Sunday and a good lunch," before leaving the window.
