Suspended IPS officer and accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Ishrat Jahan fake encounter cases, DG Vanzara, was taken to UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology for an angiography. Sources in the police said that Vanzara, who is currently lodged in Sabarmati jail, complained of chest pain on Friday and was immediately taken to the hospital. Cardiologists performed an angiography on the police officer on Saturday.
"The doctors told us that there were no major artery blockages in Vanzara's heart. It was normal. However, the doctors said that blood flow to the heart had got reduced and it was this that was causing the cop discomfort," said a senior police official.
Vanzara was brought to Sabarmati jail on transfer warrant from Taloja prison in Mumbai where he was incarcerated because of the ongoing trial in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. Incidentally, there was a shootout inside Taloja jail on June 27 in which an attempt was made on the gangster Abu Salem's life.
