Same-Sex Marriage Ban Lifted in California

The same-sex marriage stay was lifted by a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in California, following the Supreme Court order, according to BBC.

The wedding resumed within moments after the ban was lifted and the state governor issued order that the all 58 counties in California should start giving licences to the same-sex couples.

The ruling means that now 13 US states and the district of Columbia now rcognise same-sex marriage.

The couple, Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, whose case led to the Supreme Court ruling where the first to get into the wedlock moments after the ban was lifted.

Attorney General Kamala Harris rushed to San Francisco City Hall within minutes of the ruling to perform the wedding for Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, who have been together for more than 15 years and have four sons.  However, the views on the same-sex marriage are still divided after the court's ruling.
