Some Cong leaders want Manmohan Singh replaced soon

A section within the Congress party is keen on replacing Dr Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister, sources said on Monday. According to the sources, the leaders want Singh replaced before the monsoon session of Parliament.
While there is no consensus yet on the alternative name, sources said that defence minister AK Antony and finance minister P Chidambaram could be considered.

Meanwhile, a few leaders are in favour of Rahul Gandhi taking over from Singh.

Sources, however, added that Sonia Gandhi hadn't yet decided on replacing Singh.

PM Manmohan Singh has been facing his biggest crisis ever since the Ashwani Kumar and Pawan Kumar Bansal were sacked from the Union Cabinet over allegations of corruption and impropriety.

Reports of rift between Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi emerged over the sacking of the two ministers. While Manmohan was not keen on letting them go, Sonia was adamant that the two must be sacrificed to bolster the image of the scam-tainted UPA-II.

The BJP, however, urged the party to clarify its intention. "It's giving two impressions and the clarifications can be only given by the Congress headquarters. PV Narasimha Rao, who brought economic changes in the country, his dead body was not allowed in the Congress headquarters. So this is what they do once the utility is over.

So this is one impression. The second impression one is getting is that all the flak and all the wrongdoings should be shifted on one person and all the good work is credited to Gandhi. That's the other impression. The clarification about which one is true can only come from the Congress headquarters."
