Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy Interview

Telangana: Congress should respect assembly's sentiments on Telangana Bill, says Kiran Kumar Reddy

The Central government is behaving like the representative only of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy said on Thursday after the state legislature rejected the AP Reorganisation Bill 2013.

"It was an unopposed resolution rejecting the Bill," Reddy told Headlines Today in an exclusive interview.

Attacking the Congress leadership for trying to carve out a separate state from Andhra Pradesh, he said: "The party should respect sentiments of people and the assembly".

"We are in a democracy, not in a dictatorship. Once you are calling Congress an inclusive party, you should respect the views," Reddy, a Congress legislator, said. "Let the people of AP take a decision on the way forward in the elections."

He said he would take the demand to keep Andhra united to Delhi.

"We will take the fight to Delhi. The President has to take cognisance of the sentiments of the people. I'm confident it (the Bill) will not go to Parliament," he said.

Reddy made news on Wednesday after he threatened to quit politics if the Telangana Bill was tabled in parliament.

"I have put the future of AP ahead of my career," he said.

"Power sharing, water sharing and medical facilities are big problems. Unfortunately central govt is behaving like the representatives only of Telangana. They have not studied the issue in detail. The Bill is full of mistakes."

Reddy admitted that his relationship with the party's High Command was strained. "They would not like what I'm doing. I have been told that they do not like what I am doing," he said.

He said the rejection of the Bill in the AP legislature should be taken note of by the central government.

"If feelings of the House do not have place in democracy, then god only can save our democracy," he said.

"I'm the 16th CM of AP. I hope there will even be a 17th, 18th and 21st CM of united AP," Reddy said.

Andhra Pradesh Assembly Rejects Telangana Bill

The Seemandhra-dominated Andhra Pradesh assembly on Thursday rejected the AP Reorganization Bill, 2013. Amid pandemonium and with almost all the members having converged at the well of the House, speaker Nadendla Manohar put the resolution moved by chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy opposing the division of the state to voice vote and declared it as passed. The 294-member assembly has an effective strength of 279 members of which 160 are from the Seemandhra region, including the speaker and the chief minister. The bill will now be sent back to President Pranab Mukherjee after which it is slated to be tabled in Parliament in the first fortnight of February. The House was adjourned for an hour minutes after it met at 9am in view of protests by the members. While the Seemandhra members rushed to the well of the House demanding that the resolution moved by the CM be put to vote, those from the Telangana region did the same with the demand that there should be no voting. The House met again at 11am, observed two-minute silence on the occasion of the death anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi, after which it was adjourned again.

At 11.30 pm, in what appears to be a coordinated strategy between the speaker, the chief minister and the Seemandhra legislators, all the members from that region converged at the well of the House and formed a wall around the speaker even as Manohar read out the resolution, put it to voice vote and declared it as having been passed. All this was over in a matter of minutes. Immediately, the speaker adjourned the assembly sine die. In the meantime, several Telangana MLAs tried to rush towards the speaker and prevent him from going ahead with the voice vote. Finding the access blocked by the Seemandhra members, TRS legislator T Harish Rao tried to jump over legislative secretary S Raja Sadaram's table and fell down in the process. By the time he could recover, the voting was over. TRS legislator K Taraka Rama Rao charged that the chief minister and speaker connived to get the voice vote passed. "However, this will have no bearing on the Telangana bill as the opinion of the state assembly was not binding on the Centre and the bill will still be passed by Parliament," he said.

In the end, both the groups expressed satisfaction with the day's developments. The Seemandhra legislators said that Parliament should not take up the bill as it has been rejected by the state assembly. However, the Telangana members said that the debate on the bill has been concluded in the state assembly and the bill sent back to the Centre for the consideration of Parliament.

Text of the govt resolution

"The House while rejecting the AP Reorganisation bill, 2013, resolves to request the honourable President of India not to recommend the AP Reorganisation Bill, 2013, for introduction in the Parliement as the Bill seeks to bifurcate the State of Andhra Pradesh without any reason/basis and without arriving at a consensus, in utter disregard to the linguistic and cultural homogeneity and economic viability of both regions. The bill also completely ignores the very basis of formation of State of Andhra Pradesh, the first linguistic State created in Independent India."

Cabinet accepts Rahul Gandhi’s LPG subsidy demand, increases cap from 9 to 12

Days after Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi demanded an increase in the LPG cyclinder subsidy cap from 9 to 12, the Cabinet on Thursday approved the quota hike. Making the announcement, Oil Minister Veerappa Moily stated, “The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs has decided that from April 2014, each household will get 12 cylinders a year on subsidised rates”.

Hike in the subsidised LPG quota will cost Rs 5,000 crore more to the exchequer. Meanwhile, the decision to credit LPG subsidy directly to the bank accounts of the consumers (Aadhaar-linked transfer) has been put on hold by the Cabinet.

Agreeing that hike in LPG subsidised cylinders was a genuine demand by Rahul Gandhi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari clarified that the decision had nothing to do with the upcoming elections. “Rahul being an important part of the party, his suggestion always mattered,” he said. During an All India Congress Committee session in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi had stated that nine cylinders were not enough for households and there was a need to increase this quota to 12 cylinders of 14.2-kg. With a view to cutting its subsidy bill, the government had initially capped the supply of subsidised domestic LPG cylinders to six per household in a year in September 2012. Later the annual quota was raised to nine in January 2013.

Birbhum Tribal Leaders Deny Any Gang-Rape Had Taken Place

Tribal leaders in Birbhum district where a 20-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped recently have stuck to the claim that the girl had lied to frame the morol(village headman) and the media was defaming the traditional justice system of the Santhal community. At least 20 Santhal organizations from different districts came together at Angargaria village in Md Bazar, a tribal-dominated pocket, last Sunday to express their disapproval of the media portrayal of their internal justice system or "Salishi Sabha".The meeting was organised by the Birbhum district unit of "Bharat Jakat Majhi Maroa" and attended by Santhal leaders, student leaders, intellectuals and also a group of women from Labhpur village where the gang-rape took place. The Santhal leaders said they would start building public opinion in favour of their age-old justice system.

The young girl was allegedly ordered to be gang-raped by one such kangaroo court at the Birbhum village.
The Santhal organisations, however, continued to deny that the rape had at all taken place.Opel Murdy, a leader of the Bharat Jakat Majhi Maroa said, "It is true that the villagers dragged the woman and her fiance from a house where they were caught in a compromising position, but the morol did not hold any court where an order was passed to rape the woman." He alleged that the government was out to destroy their traditional system of justice and undermine the authority of the morol in their tribal set-up.

He wondered why their justice system was being targeted while the existence of similar systems or personal laws in other communities was not questioned. He said that the entire tribal community would revolt against the move Murdy threatened to organize a bigger rally at the village where the so-called rape took place and said that he and other leaders of the community had met the district administration on Monday to express their grievances.

Ukraine President Accepts PM's Resignation

Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovych has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and the rest of the Cabinet -- a key demand of his political opponents. Ukraine's government website had announced the resignation earlier Tuesday, publishing a statement by Mr. Azarov saying he wanted to encourage "social-political compromise," after two months of protests that have culminated with violent clashes between demonstrators and police. He said he hoped his resignation would create an opportunity for a peaceful settlement of the country's political crisis. Also Tuesday, parliament repealed recently-approved anti-protest laws that had sparked violent anti-government protests in Kyiv and elsewhere. But President Yanukovych said amnesty for dozens of protesters arrested at the demonstrations will only be implemented if activists take down their barricades and leave the streets.

On Monday, President Yanukovych announced he had agreed to scrap the anti-protest laws. The announcement came after a meeting between the president and opposition leaders. Protesters did leave the Justice Ministry building that they had occupied overnight, but promised to return if no progress is made on ending the standoff with the government. Opposition leader Arseniy Yatsenyuk formally rejected President Yanukovych's offer to make him prime minister. Marchers took to the streets in late November when Mr. Yanukovych backed out of a trade deal with the European Union in favor of closer ties to Russia. The White House says U.S. Vice President Joe Biden telephoned Mr. Yanukovych to urge parliament to repeal the anti-protest laws and keep working with the opposition to avoid violence and reduce tensions.

Gay Sex Still Criminal Supreme Court Refuses To Review Verdict

The Supreme Court today said that it will not review its controversial order that made gay sex criminal. The December verdict had drawn sharp criticism internationally for failing to protect fundamental individual rights.
The top court had  stated that only parliament could change the law, by deleting Section 377- a colonial-era statute of the Indian Penal Code which bans sex "against the order of nature"- is constitutionally valid.
The Centre and gay rights activists had appealed against the Supreme Court's decision. But judges today said they saw no reason to interfere with the order. Now, the union government has two options: it can either file a curative petition in the Supreme Court, or it can try to amend the law in Parliament.

A curative petition, the final appeal in the legal process, is heard by the Supreme Court's senior-most judges including the Chief Justice of the country. Amending the law in parliament will be tough for the government.  The main opposition party, the BJP, has said it backs Article 377. The next parliament session, starting February 5, lasts 11 days, and is the last time Parliament will meet before the national election, due by May. In 2009, the Delhi High Court exempted gay sex between consenting adults from the ban imposed by Section 377. That verdict was the result of a case brought by the Naz Foundation, a sexual rights organization, which fought a legal battle for almost a decade.

Different religious groups appealed against the Delhi High Court's decision in the Supreme Court, which ruled in their favour. The Supreme Court bench, headed by G.S. Singhvi on his last day before retirement, found the High Court had overstepped its authority and that the law passed by the British in 1860 does not violate the Constitution. Several hundred gay activists had protested the verdict in Delhi, waving rainbow flags and chanting slogans for freedom.

Nayak 2 - The Common Man Rises

Calling it 'Nayak 2: The Common Man Rises', YouTube comedy group All India Bakchod (AIB) has released a parody video of the rise of Arvind Kejriwal that will leave you in tears. Taking jabs left, right and centre at other IIT alumni like Chetan Bhagat who turned author as well as Anna Hazare's anti-alcohol stance, AIB's parody shows how Arvind Kejriwal went from becoming a Batman-like vigilante to a chief minister whose weapon of choice is protests. And here's the icing on top of the hilarious cake - the godfather behind the making of this middle-class superhero is none other than... you guessed it right, the 'sanskaari man', Alok Nath! And the real deal too. We applaud AIB for roping in the actor to perform this guiding angel role.

So, Arvind Kejriwal designs his entire superhero life - from his symbol (he starts out with a vacuum cleaner, but Alok Nath says that's not middle class enough) to his costume (middle-aged uncle half-sweater and security guard muffler), and then he sets out to fight crime in the nation.

Cast: Arvind Kejriwal - Hussain Dalal, Voiced by Sundeep Sharma, Alok Nath played by Babuji, Rohan Joshi, Ashish Shakya, Shivankit.

Directed by - Kumar Devanshu, DOP - Sahir Raza, Music - Arjun Kanungo, Editor - Shashwat Dutta, Ashish Heblekar

Emo Gurram Egaravachu Movie Review

Film: Emo Gurram Egaravachu
Starring: Sumanth, Pinky
Director: Chandra Siddhartha
Producer: Pudhota Sudheer Kumar
Banner: Cherry Films PVT LTD
Music: Keeravani MM

Sumanth's Emo Gurram Egaravachu Movie Review on Way2movies. Read on Sumanth, Pinky Savika starrer Emo Gurram Egaravachu review below.. Sumanth

Story

Bullabhai (Sumanth) who fails in 10th class for 14 times plans to get passed this time with the help of his cousin but gets caught by the examination squad. Bullabhai’s uncle daughter Neelaveni (Pinky Savika) flies from US to India to get married. Despite seeing several guys, she is unsatisfied which makes her parents worried and angered. So Neelaveni plans to get married to innocent Bullabhai to get back her freedom and search a perfect guy after flying back US. Neelaveni later finds doctor Shravan impressive and gets engaged to him with the help of Bullabhai. Who will Neelaveni end up finally is the rest of the story.

Performances

Sumanth has put his efforts for the role and he is good in emotional scenes. He did what is required for the role though he looked odd in lady getup look. Pinky Savika looks good but she needs to improve in acting. There is no proper lip sync to the dialogues. Annapurnamma s good, Thagubothu Ramesh, Kanchi brings few laughs along with Harshavardhanm Sudha is neat and others were adequate.

Technical Analysis

Musical scores are mediocre while Keeravani’s background score in impressive and has elevated many scenes in the latter half. Cinematography by Chandramouli is decent. Editing could have been better. Chandra Siddharth’s direction is not up to the mark, screenplay is predictable and routine. Production values of Cherry Films are standard.

Analysis

Chandra Siddarth is known or his quality films with social theme Aa Naluguru, Andhari Bandhuvaiya but if you expect EGE, a similar treatment you would be disappointed. Emo Gurram Egoravachu is a routine story that reminds you of Namaste London, Bhadradi Ramudu in a certain way. Despite routine story, an impressive and gripping narration could have worked for such emotional scripts but sadly, it doesn’t work for EGE due to predictability and slow paced narration. The second half is quite boring with too much dragging and lagging. Climax is unconvincing and weak. Despite Sumanth putting his efforts, the film falls flat. Weak direction and Unexciting screenplay are the negative points of the movie.

Final Verdict

Predictably Boring!!!

BCCI stands to gain more than Rs 3,600 crore from ICC revamp

Based on the International Cricket Council's (ICC) approximate revenue model of Rs 15,700 crore ($2.5 billion) between 2015 and 2023, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) stands to gain Rs 3,600 crore if the proposal to make India, England and Australia custodians of the global game comes to pass. Former ICC president Ehsan Mani believes the BCCI could end up making even more money since he estimates the world body could make as much as $3 billion (Rs 18,900 cr @ Rs 62.73 per dollar) during that period. In addition, BCCI will make more for staging events in India during that period. "I had done two previous commercial deals for the ICC and I can tell you that the world governing body will get more money than what is mentioned by the BCCI in the proposal paper," Mani told TOI from Pakistan. BCCI had said that it was looking at a sum of Rs 5,000 crore from ICC's revenues, as reported by TOI earlier. BCCI, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Australia (CA) are expected to be the biggest gainers from the finance and governance draft proposal initiated by BCCI. "I am shocked to see England joining hands with BCCI. CA doesn't want to upset India and that is why they are supporting a cause which will ruin world cricket," Mani said.

Mani charged these three countries with undermining the integrity and status of the ICC. He also claimed that the proposal was drafted to benefit a vested group. "India is doing lip service to Test cricket. They want more time out for T20 and that is why their Test team struggles outside India. By not inviting teams like Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, BCCI is killing cricket in that part of the world," Mani said. "The directors, presidents, chief executive and management of ICC have no role and inputs in, or knowledge of, the preparation of the paper even though it comes from a working group of the ICC finance and commercial affairs committee. It appears some members of the committee were not invited to join in the discussions leading to the paper and were not even aware of discussions taking place," he added. Mani was also quoted as saying the full members of the ICC were summoned in Dubai on Jan 9 and presented with this paper.
As per the existing revenue sharing model, each full member like BCCI is supposed to get Rs 700 crore from ICC. Between 2007 and 2015, BCCI will be getting around Rs 332 crore (@Rs 52 to a $) from the ICC. As per Mani's calculations if BCCI has its way, Indian board's share of income will be close to 23%, England's 11% and Australia's 5%.

Mani also claimed that total share to full member countries would around Rs 9,700 crore and the associate members would get approximately Rs 1,300 crore. Based on the current model, associate members get Rs 3,300 crore. If the proposal is passed, ICC will be left with a mere Rs 4,670 crore to run cricket affairs. Mani said: "A point that also needs to be addressed is why does BCCI need more money at the expense of other countries? If a World Cup was held without Pakistan, South Africa and the West Indies, ICC's revenues for the event could be reduced by 30% to 40%.

BIG MONEY:

Total ICC revenue (likely) from 2015-2022): 15,700 cr

BCCI's share (22.9 %): Rs 3,600 cr; ECB (11.7%): Rs 1,850 cr; CA (5%): Rs 800 cr; PCB (3.82%): Rs 600 cr; CSA (3.75%): Rs 590 cr; WICB (3.18%): Rs 500 cr; NZC (2.99%): Rs 470 cr; SLC (3.18%) Rs 500 cr;

BCB (2.67%) Rs 420 cr

ZCB (2.54%): Rs 400 cr

Associate Members: Rs 1300 cr

ICC will be left with Rs 4670 cr to promote the game.

‘Jai Ho’ Review

Most of Salman Khan’s films have been thorough entertainers. His previous films - ‘Wanted’, ‘Dabangg’, ‘Bodyguard’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and ‘Dabangg 2’- did great business at the Box Office and ‘Jai Ho’ may prove to be even better. Directed by Sohail Khan, ‘Jai Ho’ is an absolute entertainer with a thought provoking message. The title of the film is apt. The central character `Jai` played by Salman Khan is a suspended army officer, who dares to fight against the unjust and the powerful. He believes in extending a helping hand to those in need and dreams of a prosperous nation where everyone steps forward to help each other. His sister Geeta (played by Tabu) knows his strengths and takes pride in having a sibling like him. His thick friends (played by Yash Tonk and Ashmit Patel) follow in his footsteps and are ever ready to assist him or anyone in times of need.

The whole film revolves around the idea of extending a helping hand to those in need and asking them to return favours by helping three other people and taking the chain forward. With ‘Jai Ho’, Salman Khan has been able to deliver one of the best performances of his career and convey a very simple yet a strong message through this highly entertaining movie. The film endorses the belief that even one man can make a difference if he determines to do so. It is all about the power of the common man aka the aam aadmi. Debutant Daisy Shah, as expected, had very little to contribute to the film but the newbie does have a strong screen presence. She may need meaty roles in future to prove her acting credentials but looked quite good in the film.

Tabu as `Geeta` and veteran theatre personality Nadira Babbar as Jai’s mother have been fabulous. They personified strength and support a man seeks from his family. Tabu comes across as a fiery woman who believes in making a noise against the tyrants. You will be surprised to see a number of popular and renowned faces essaying character roles in the film. Genelia D’Souza comes across as a handicapped girl and Vikas Bhalla as her brother, Mahesh Manjrekar as an auto rickshaw driver, Mohnish Behl as the Chief Minister, Danny Denzogpa as the Home Minister, Mukul Dev as Denzogpa’s son-in-law, Tulip Joshi, Varun Badola, Aditya Pancholi, Pulkit Samrat, comedian Sudesh Lehri and last but not the least, Suniel Shetty as an army officer. The film also features ‘Bigg Boss’ fame Santosh Shukla and Sana Khan portraying significant roles. Unlike Salman’s previous films, ‘Jai Ho’ isn’t a typical masala movie. However, Sohail does take cinematic liberty here and there, which in a way, can be brushed aside, considering the main theme of the film.

The action sequences are really good and why wouldn’t they be? After all it’s about good man Salman Khan roughing up those who are bad. If you are a Salman Khan fan, then you are bound to blow wolf-whistles. The music in the film has its share of pluses and minuses. The song ‘Apna Kaam Banta’ is a combination of foot-tapping music and some hard hitting lyrics. ‘Tere Naina’ is melodious and will remind you of ‘Tere Mast Mast Do Nain’ and ‘Tera Naina Bade Daghabaaz Re’ from ‘Dabangg’ and ‘Dabangg 2’ respectively. But the other numbers are just above average. The dialogues are simple and connect well with the audiences. The action sequences have been shot well and the cinematography is clean and impressive. Kudos to the Khan brothers for pulling off a film like ‘Jai Ho’.

Doctors say diabetic Arvind Kejriwal more prone to infections

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is on the roads protesting in the winter chill, but his medical condition could worsen as he is a diabetic patient which makes him more prone to cold and chest infections as compared to normal people, doctors said Tuesday. Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the pancreas do not produce enough insulin or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced. The chief minister, along with his ministers and volunteers, spent the entire Monday night on the road outside the Rail Bhavan in central Delhi raising slogans. And from all indications so far, he seems set to spend Tue night also in the open. "A person who is diabetic will be more prone to infections with exposure to cold. Infections like pneumonia, cough or any other kind of chest infection are more common among diabetics,"

Anup Mishra, director, Fortis C-DOC hospital for diabetes, told IANS. He said if a diabetic is also suffering from hypertension, then he or she becomes more prone to heart attacks as the blood pressure increases due to exposure to extreme weather putting pressure on the heart. Suronjit Chatterjee, senior consultant, internal medicine, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, said: "A diabetic is also an immunocompromised person. That is why they are more prone to infections when their blood sugar is uncontrolled." Immunocompromised individuals are less capable of battling infections because of an immune response that is not properly functioning. "I would say that when such people catch infections, doctors should be more aggressive in treating them," he said. Kejriwal, who spent the night in the open, had to undergo several medical checks-ups by his physician. Randeep Guleria, head of the department of pulmonary medicine, All India Institute of Medical Science said diabetics form a high risk group for any kind of infection. "Diabetics form a high risk group. They should protect themselves from exposure to extreme cold, especially during early morning and late night," he said. Guleria added that vaccination against flu and pneumonia was a good option for patients suffering from diabetes.

Why Arvind Kejriwal's Facebook Popularity has faded in 10 days

Arvind Kejriwal, who till recently was seen as a Nayak of the nation from corruption, an eternal menace, has been transformed into a Khalnayak of sort in the last three weeks, or more precisely, in the last one week.

If fan following on the Facebook is considered a parameter to judge a person's popularity, Kejriwal's fortunes have taken a nosedive in the last 10 days. On January 13, the number of Kejriwal's fans registered were almost 68,000 (The data was collected and visualised using a third party Social Media Analytics Tool). On January 20, the number of fans registered on his Facebook page came down to blow 30,000. For January 21, the projection was just over 7,600 (before Kejriwal called off the strike in Delhi). What caused this sudden fall in the popularity of the man who was till recently seen as a liberator of sort? Post-ruckus, things won't be same again for Kejriwal and Delhi Kejriwal, in the last one week, has seen his credibility been dusted and done. He might announce with pride that the decision to send the three police personnel on leave is a victory of the people and draw some consolation, but there is little doubt that Kejriwal will, from the 26th day of his coming to power, will look a monster to every Indian, whether an influential babu in his bungalow or a nervous woman on the streets. Kejriwal has imported a politics which both the Indian State and the Society will be apprehensive about from this moment.

Arrogance and insensitivity Kejriwal will be hated because of his arrogance and insensitivity towards the common people who he and his team hold in 'high regards'. Kejriwal didn't ever speak about women's security as the prime concern of his government which should have been the case and always stressed the two issues of water and electricity. But as soon as his minister Somnath Bharti was found caught on the wrong foot, he began to shed crocodile tears for women's security (his own supporters manhadled a woman journalist on Tuesday) and declared an unexpected war on the Delhi Police. Talks tall but evades responsibility, this is what AAP's callousness has proved This was done to divert the attention from Bharti's callous public behaviour and put the ball in the court of the Centre, citing its control over the Delhi Police, to give the AAP government a protective shield against the definite failure to improve Delhi's crime records. It was a pre-emptive strike by the AAP only to evade failure.

No public leader can hold faith for such defeatist mentality and Kejriwal is no exception. His declining popularity on Facebook confirms that. Didn't Kejriwal know about who controls Delhi Police before contesting polls? On the AAP's sudden revolt demanding the control over the Delhi Police, didn't Kejriwal know about this before his party contested the polls? As an opposition leader, he like every other attacked the previous Delhi government for failing to check crime against women. Now, he says that the government is helpless because it doesn't have the control over the police. This is a shameless show of dual character. Power-monger Kejriwal loses his popularity on Facebook and rightly so. Putting nation's honour and security in a spot can't be forgiven But the biggest crime of Kejriwal is that he has even put the nation's image and security under question. The alleged mishandling of the African women and the consequent protest by African diplomats have tainted India's image before the world. It could have grave foreign policy implications particularly at a time when India is competing with the formidable Chinese to make economic gains in Africa. And then, eyeing an even bigger media space by threatening to disrupt Republic Day parade is an act which not many Indian will forgive. It amounts to humiliating the nation and Kejriwal is certainly not bigger than it. The diminishing stature of Kejriwal in Facebook makes it evident.

Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Union minister Shashi Tharoor, found dead in Delhi hotel

Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of Union minister Shashi Tharoor, was found dead in suite 345 of Leela Hotel on Friday evening. Her death comes within 48 hours of her going public about her husband's alleged affair with a Pakistani journalist, raising suspicions of suicide, although no note has been found. Her body was reportedly found by Tharoor when he returned to the hotel in the evening after Friday's AICC session. The couple are said to have moved out of the minister's official bungalow as it was being painted. The police were informed by Tharoor's PS Abhinav Kumar.

The tragic end came even as Twitter was still buzzing about the public display of anger, betrayal and accusations involving Tharoor, Sunanda and Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar. There were also reports of Sunanda talking of divorce, although she scotched the talk on Thursday. The police initially suggested it was suicide. But late at night, the officers were more guarded. Police sources said it could be a "natural or unnatural death". They said all angles were being probed: suicide, poisoning and death due to a sudden heart attack. A forensic team had come to the hotel and a magistrate was called for the interrogation of Tharoor and his PS.

As the marriage was less than seven years old, section 176 of the CrPC kicked in and the police was conducting investigations to rule out any dowry angle. Delhi police will also ask Twitter to give details of direct messages between Sunanda and Tarar. There were no apparent injuries on the body which was discovered around 8pm when Tharoor opened the room. Police said the 52-year-old woman had been last seen in the hotel lobby around 3.30pm. The Sarojini Nagar SDM will supervise the probe.

Special commissioner of police Deepak Mishra confirmed her death and said suite 345 of Leela and the entire third floor had been sealed. Pushkar had checked into the hotel on Wednesday, police said. Sources said her body was discovered on the bed covered with a duvet. Dr Sudhir Gupta, head of forensic sciences at AIIMS, said the body would be kept at the department and viscera preserved. "Postmortem will be conducted after inquest orders from the magistrate," he said.

Talk of trouble between the high-profile Tharoors had been swirling for months but things were finally made public by Sunanda. 'Sunanda spoke of poor health, depression' Sunanda, who has a 21-year-old son from a previous marriage, put correspondence between Tharoor and Lahore-based Mehr Tarar, 45, on Twitter and spoke about it to the media. Although the couple on Thursday said they were "happily married", parallel reports of her having sought divorce resurfaced in the media.

Although no one who had spoken to her in the past few days sensed any suicidal tendency, one of her last tweets read: "Will try got so many issues diagnosed in KIMS that now who knows when I got 2 go with joy hastay hua jayagay (will go laughing)." Tharoor, who left his job at the UN after unsuccessfully contesting elections for the secretary-general's post, returned to India in 2008. Soon after, he divorced his Canadian diplomat wife. He married Sunanda in 2010 — his third marriage. He has two sons from his first wife, Tillotma.

People who had spoken to Sunanda in the past two days described her as very disturbed and distraught over her husband's relationship with Tarar. TV anchors with whom she had corresponded on Thursday night said she had spoken about her poor health and depression. Sunanda, who was with Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram last week, underwent treatment at a private hospital two days ago. She was unwell and diagnosed with Lupus and stomach tuberculosis, said a hospital source. Lupus is a medical condition arising from deficiency in immunity which damages healthy tissues. It is learnt that she had spent four days in hospital.

"My wife's illness means I need to be with her and will miss all five events of Jaipur litfest in 2014. I promised to atone in 2015," a tweet by Tharoor at 8.01pm read. Journalist Vir Sanghvi said on TV he had met her a few weeks ago and the usually bubbly woman was not herself. "...I feel there is something deeper here," he said.

Sushilkumar Shinde calls RK Singh’s allegations politically motivated

RK Singh and Sushilkumar Shinde
420 riot victims shifted from Muzaffarnagar relief camp to “His (RK Singh) accusations are baseless and are politically motivated,” Shinde told media.
This is the first public response made by the Home Minister after Singh alleged that Shinde had interfered in the probe into betting scam in IPL and prevented Delhi Police from questioning a businessman close to India's most-wanted criminal Dawood Ibrahim.

In his interview to TV channels, Singh had claimed that Delhi Police was stopped by Shinde from questioning a Mumbai-based businessman, who is said to have "some kind of links" with Dawood Ibrahim, in connection with the betting in Indian Premier League, a T-20 cricketing tournament.
Singh also attacked Shinde, saying that he is not fit to be the Home Minister and Finance Minister P Chidambaram is "100 times better" than him.
"Singh is now a political man. His allegations are political in nature. He is now with BJP. I do not see him as a former home secretary but as a BJP man. I will not react to his allegations," he told reporters here.

Singh joined BJP in December of last year and may contest the Lok Sabha polls from Bihar.

Shinde said his Congress party and ministerial colleagues had already reacted to Singh's allegations.

Congress has questioned the "opportunistic" and "low" behaviour of the officer.

Party general secretary Digvijay Singh claimed that the former home secretary had tried to get a post-retirement position from UPA.

"Shocked at the opportunistic behaviour of RK Singh, ex HS. Why did he not bring this to the notice of the Cabinet Secretary or the PM ?

"Is it not a fact that he tried to get a post-retirement position from UPA? Is it not a fact that he had approached Nitish (Kumar) for a position?," Digvijay had said on Twitter.

I&B Minister Manish Tewari, too, has asked why the bureaucrat had not spoken up earlier.

Tewari criticized what he said was a tendency after retirement among bureaucrats to speak out against their former bosses.

"I think it is extremely unfortunate. You have this very pernicious tendency of bureaucrats after retirement trying to make allegations in order to occupy media space," Tewari had said. If Singh, or anybody else, was really so concerned, then why was not the matter put on record while they were in service, Tewari had asked.

AAP vs AAP: Arvind Kejriwal a Jiar, says Lawmaker Vinod Kumar Binny

Who is Vinod Kumar Binny?

 Vinod Kumar Binny
Vinod Kumar Binny- the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from east Delhi's Laxmi Nagar constituency has become a familiar name among the media as well as the political circles. 39-year-old Binny has become the rebellious face of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led- AAP. On Thursday, Binny's dissent with his party came out in open when he adressed mediapersons and expressed his anger over Kejriwal and other party memebers. Lets know more about Vinod Kumar Binny: Binny is a B.A. graduate from Delhi University's Motilal Nehru College. He has been a three-time MLA, who has earlier served as the "ward councillor" in mohalla sabhas where he is known to have worked without any self-interests and with full genuinity. Binny was elected as an independent in 2007 and 2012. During 2009 to 2011, he was supported by the Congress party.

Binny proved his potential as a promising politician when he defeated the Congress strongman and the sitting MLA Ashok Kumar Walia by a margin of 8,000 votes, during recently held Delhi assembly elections. Binny, the "Giant killer" is a resident of Vasundhara Enclave, Dallupura and his fahter is a paneer supplier. In December 2013, Binny showed first signs of differences with the AAP leadership when he stromed out of the meeting called by the Kejriwal. A trader by profession, Binny was first elected to the Delhi Municipal Corporation as an Independent in 2007. In 2011, he joined the India Against Corruption movement led by social activist Anna Hazare. Binny actively participated in the mass protest that rattled the nation when a 23-year-old paramedical student was brutally gangraped in a moving bus in Delhi on the night of December 16, 2012. He also featured in the AAP video of swaraj (self-governance), where he claims that he pioneered the concept of mohalla sabhas. Binny, who has no crimnal record, gained the trust of his community by working constantly to the upliftment of his constituency.

Binny's revolt against AAP-Out in the open! In today's Press Conference, Binny levelled allegations of opportunism on AAP and said, "You (Kejriwal) have become a dictator. Stop fooling the people of Delhi. All decisions in the party are taken in closed rooms by four-five people. Arvind gets angry if people express any differences with him. If anyone speaks against him, he starts shouting." While intensifyting the heat, Binny has even threatened to go on a hunger strike from January 27 if Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal do not fulfil promises made in the election manifesto. Binny also maintained that he was the one who even refused to become a minister. By calling Kejriwal as a 'liar' and a 'dictator', Binny showed that there are huge cracks in the newly-formed AAP and infighting at an early stage since forming the government in Delhi can prove fatal for the future prospects of AAP. So, it is to be seen whether Binny's criticism towards his own party is a result of his not getting a portfolio in the Delhi cabinet or he is the new face of the aam aadmi who fights for their rights and causes. AAP candidates against prominent leaders like Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav would be decided soon, party National Spokesman Sanjay Singh told reporters here. However, those applying would have to be recommended by at least 100 persons each from all the assembly constituencies in his or her area," he said. Replying to a question, Singh alleged that leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav, Ram Vilas Paswan, Farooq Abdullah, Mamata Banerjee, Mayawati and others called themselves secular despite the fact that they were with BJP in the past.   "Now, they are with Congress and labelling themselves as secular," he said.

Aamir Khan I Earn The Least As Compared To The Other Actors

One of Bollywood's favourite Khans, Aamir Khan, claims to earn the "least compared to others", and says he "cannot compromise" with his emotions as "money cannot buy me". "Till today, I have not worked for money and that is one of my biggest strengths," Aamir, who is currently on a roller-coaster thanks to the success of his latest release Dhoom 3, told IANS in an interview.

He has experimented with films, roles and genres galore in his over 25-year movie career. From loverboy to teacher to villager and now a villain, he has done it all, but it's vital for Aamir to connect emotionally with a project before he gives it a thumbs up. "It's not that I don't need money. All of us need money and, according to me, I earn the least amount of money. I earn the least compared to others and yet I am very happy because I do what my heart says."

"I never work for money. Give me Rs 100 crore for a film and if I don't like it, I will not do it. I cannot compromise with my emotions, and money cannot buy me," added the 48-year-old actor, who started his full-fledged tryst with filmdom with the 1988 romance drama Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. He cemented his spot in the movie business with projects like Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Raja Hindustani and Sarfarosh. The year 2001 turned out to be a turning point for Aamir, who featured in Lagaan and films as different as chalk and cheese - and proved his versatility. Thereafter, he went on to feature in films like Rang De Basanti, Fanaa, Ghajini, 3 Idiots and the critically acclaimed Dhobi Ghat. He even acted in and directed the commercially and critically lauded 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, which dealt with dyslexia. No wonder Aamir is known to make films with a no-nonsense quality. "It is difficult for me to go out of my sensibilities and work.

I can do different kinds of genres, but if my sensibility doesn't match, I will not do it. If it disturbs my values, I can't do that film," he said. "If I had a value judgment on Delhi Belly, I would not have produced it. It's an adult comedy, it has use of abusive language, but I feel that even that is a colour of life which I would like to enjoy. "So, we applied for an 'A' certificate and I went out of my way to tell people that it's an adult film and that if you have any objection, don't come," he added. That also makes Aamir, a father of three, a socially aware and conscious citizen. He has, of course, put that realm of himself to judicious use with his TV show Satyamev Jayate, which gives out startling facts about society's issues. But going beyond that capacity and joining politics to bring about change is not his cup of tea. "I am not interested in politics. I feel whatever my strengths are, I want to make use of them. Why does a person join politics? Because they want to serve society. I feel wherever I am today, I can serve society in a better way. I don't have to join politics for that. I am doing Satyamev Jayate, which is only about that. I am contributing a lot from here," said the actor, who is now awaiting the celebrations for the success of Dhoom 3.

Government Okays CCTV, Panic Buttons in Public Vehicles

The government on Thursday approved the first project under the Nirbhaya fund, approving the installation of panic buttons, CCTV cameras and Global Positioning System (GPS) devices in public transport vehicles in 32 cities in India. The approval was given by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) at its meeting held here. The central government had announced the Nirbhaya fund after a 23-year-old woman was brutally gang-raped in a moving bus in Delhi in December 2012. The girl, dubbed Nirbhaya, later died in a Singapore hospital.

The incident sparked huge protests across the country and brought to the fore the need for safe and secure public transport. The project will help in mapping routes of public vehicles, tracking vehicles on the route, highlighting violations through visual and text signals, and a panic button to alert police. The project is aimed at providing safety and security to women in distress in minimum response time, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram told reporters here. The total estimated cost of the project will be Rs.1,405 crore. It will be implemented within two years. The emergency button in public transport vehicles will generate an alarm in the central tracking system. Chidambaram said the finance ministry has given in-principle approval to two other proposals, which include installation of a panic alarm button in mobile handsets.

Corey Anderson World record slams fastest ever ODI ton

World record: NZ’s Corey Anderson slams fastest ever ODI ton

Corey Anderson slammed a century off just 36 balls against the West Indies to break Shahid Afridi's long-standing world record for fastest ODI ton as New Zealand beat West Indies by 160 runs in a rain-shortened game in Queenstown. At the other end, Jesse Ryder got a super quick ton (104 off 51 balls) as well but no one is going to be talking about that. The West Indies will remember the partnership for a long time though -- 191 runs, 12.3 overs, RR: 15.28. Ryder's contribution to partnership was 63.

Anderson finished the innings on 131 off 47 balls with 6 fours and 14 sixes. The match was curtailed to just 21 overs-a-side due to bad weather. New Zealand finished on a mind-numbing 283-4 off just 21 overs. In reply, West Indies never got going and stuttered to 124/5, with captain Dwayne Bravo topscoring with 56. At one point, Anderson was going along at a very brisk 59 off 24 balls (2x4, 7x6) but then he slammed Ravi Rampaul for four successive sixes and things just took off. He reached 85 off 31 balls -- 2 fours, 11 sixes... 15 runs and 5 balls to get them in. A few singles and and even a dot ball ensued. But then he reached the mark -- as it seemed just -- with another six off Nikita Miller. The previous fastest century in ODIs was by Shahid Afridi, who got it in just 37 balls way back in 1996. Anderson also beat the previous fastest for New Zealand by 31 balls. Craig McMillan had scored a century off 67 balls versus Australia at Hamilton in 2007.
